Music and Sports go hand and hand like music and a dance
floor. Listening to music can stimulate parts of the brain that are critical to
athletic performance. Costas Karageorghis who has spent 25
years studying music and its effects on the brain says “When the brain is
listening to music, It lights up like a Christmas tree. It’s an ideal stimuli
because it reaches (parts of the brain) that can’t easily be reached.” He found
music can tap into the brains secretion of dopamine and natural opioids – two
naturally occurring chemicals that help block our perception of fatigue and
pain. Karageorghis says “Based on my research, music can be like a
performance-enhancing drug. It’s just that intoxicating”.
