Kenya Grace is a native of South Africa, but was raised in Southampton, England. She is a songwriter, recording artist and producer. She is only the second british female solo act to get to number 1 with an entirely written and self produced track after Kate Bush.

50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIP-HOP

 

Hip-hop’s unofficial 50th birthday is tomorrow. It’s the anniversary of a neighborhood back-to-school party in the Bronx during the summer of 1973 that sparked a global phenomenon.  

 

I’ve been blessed, fortunate and lucky to work with many artists from many musical generes. Pop, Rock, Blues, Disco, Gospel, Jazz, New Age, and EDM. Looking back on Hip-hop’s 50 years allows me to look back on one of the most personal favorite chapters of my life. Imagine being in the studio when some of the greatest records in history were being made. I can. Because I was. From telling Queen Latifah to sing (and not just rap) on “Give Me Your Love”, along with remixing the track and overseeing the entire “Nature Of a Sista” album. To digitally mastering (one of the first rap albums ever) by De La Soul. There’s also Stetsasonic, Coolio (“Gangsta’s Paradise”), Digital Underground (“Humpty Dance”), Naughty By Nature (“O.P.P”., “Hip Hop Hooray”, etc.), House Of Pain (“Jump Around”) and more. I’ve shared the stage and performed with Biz Markie, Salt n Pepa, Flo Rida, Sir Mix-a-lot, Young MC, DJ Kool, Rob Base and MORE. To be in the thick of it, when rap and hip-hop crossed over from the streets to mainstream America was a crazy ride. What’s even crazier….is I still am. Happy Birthday Hip-hop! Hip-hop Hooray!!!

OLIVIA RODRIGO BACK WITH “VAMPIRE” HK REMIX

OLIVIA RODRIGO said she probably wrote 100 to 150 songs for her new album, explaining she writes many songs and "only a fraction of them are any good." The majority of them, according to her, are "just terrible," and only approximately 20 of them were really recorded; from there, they chose the 12 that are included on the album. Well, if the next 11 are even half as good as “Vampire”, Rodrigo has another smash album on her hands.

Nearly thirty years after Tracy Chapman first released the song ‘Fast Car’, Luke Combs cover has gone #1 and just been certified platinum.. Because of Combs’ cover, Tracy Chapman is the first Black woman in history to have a number one hit country song as she is the only writer. 

 

Yours truly…HK…is responsible for the biggest selling Dance Compilation in music history. And I like to bring that kind of energy every single weekend. This week is no exception. Calvin Harris is back with new music and bangin’ collabs. The Scottish Producer, Artist, DJ and Wunderkind is currently enjoying the fruits of teaming up with Ellie Goulding again. The track Miracle is currently heating up dance floors and music charts alike. And, while people are just getting a taste of it, Harris shot a video this week for his next release. A collab with Sam Smith entitled Desire.

In a testament to his honesty, Lewis Capaldi, has opened up about the reasons why he cancelled all his tour dates, and has elaborated on his battle with Tourette’s syndrome.

 

With a heavy heart, Lewis felt he had to cancel his eagerly-anticipated shows in Glasgow, Dublin, London and Norway. He hasn’t been home since christmas and wants to rest and recover before his Glastonbury show.

PINK PERSISTENCE

Talk about never giving up. Pink was in two bands before her solo career took flight. The first broke up after losing a battle of the bands competition. Her second, an R&B group named Choice, broke up after making a couple songs. She stuck with it though and eventually got a solo record deal, which led to the incredible success of her debut in 2000.

 

It’s that kind of passion and determination that makes me want to get in the studio every week to bring you the best remixes, hits, throwbacks and new music.
