Throughout pop culture there have been pond jumping Brits that have influenced the US music scene. The British Invasion was a term coined in the 60's to describe the impact of The Beatles and the Rolling Stones on the American music charts. The second British Invasion came in the 80's. In April 1984, 40 of the top 100 singles on the US music charts were British acts. During the second British Invasion, music journalist Simon Reynolds speculated that, British acts such as The Eurythmics, Culture Club, Wham! and Paul Young were influenced by black American music which helped to fuel their success. MTV also played a part in the flood of British music coming to America in the 80's. The Human League, Big Country, Flock of Seagulls, and Simple Minds all made kick ass music videos. MTV was new on the scene and in need of great product to put on the air waves.
Are we in the middle of a third British Invasion? CAN YOU SAY- Adele, One Direction, The Wanted, Calvin Harris, Taio Cruz, Cold Play, Mumford & Sons, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and Susan Boyle to name just a few.
I haven't put the HK sonic throw down to the Mumford boys or Susan "how do you like my makeover" Boyle yet, But I will be spinning custom HK Americana remixes on most of these Brits along with hits from Chris Brown, Kelly Clarkson, Fun, Hot Chelle Rae, B.O.B., Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Pitbull and my special cinematic remix of Taylor Swift's - "Eyes Open" from the blockbuster movie eating up the competition - "Hunger Games". It's all going down this week, so lock it in and rip the knob off!
