Lil Nas X’s smash hit Old Town Road featuring Billy
Ray Cyrus has been the #1 song in the country for four weeks.
According to an interview that Lil Nas did with Time magazine,
the song was inspired by his personal life and is a message of loneliness and
perseverance.
Just last year Lil Nas X was staying at his sister’s house,
he had dropped out of college and his parents weren’t happy about it. X spent
his days self-promoting his music but even that began to fall apart. Lil Nas
said, “Old Town Road came after a period of feeling like I was out
of options. I was living with my sister. She was pretty much fed up with me
being there. That’s where the chorus lyric came from. It was me saying, ‘I
want to leave everything behind…’ the ‘can’t nobody tell me nothing’ part is
referring to my parents: wanting me to go back to school, not thinking it’s
that likely for [me] to make it.” He said, “I felt like a loner cowboy, I
wanted to take my horse to the Old Town Road and run away. The horse is like a
car. The Old Town Road, it’s like a path to success”.
Congrats go out to Lil Nas X for staying true to his dream
and going down that path to success.
