The Man isn't a
man, it's a band and they're not from Portugal. They hail from Portland
Oregon by-way-of Alaska. And they have their first mainstream Top 20 hit on
their hands with “Feel It Still”. While they may be new to some people, Portugal.
The Man’s debut album was released in 2006 and their current album Woodstock is their eighth. When
Billboard asked vocalist John Gourley why he thinks “Feel It Still” is
their first song to crack the Hot 100 he said; “Anytime you borrow – or
should I say, buy – the melody from (The Marvelettes) “Please Mr.
Postman”, I feel like it should work. (This song) came about so naturally, just
bass and a vocal. You can’t plan that stuff though, I’d like to think I could
sit down and say ‘Hey guys, let’s write a hit,’ but there’s something really
natural about this song and the way it came together.” It also doesn’t hurt
that the song is used in a Vitaminwater ad with Aaron Paul dancing on a
treadmill.
This
weekend I’ll be dancin’ behind the decks when I cook up a custom HK
remix on “Feel It Still” along with other bangers from Demi Lovato,
Jonas Blue, Niall Horan, Kesha and that’s just the tip of my
sonic iceberg. I can’t wait to spin some magic on brand spankin' new tracks
