THINGS I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2019

2019 is here and there’s so much great stuff coming at us this year, so here’s my 2019 “looking forward to list” in no logical order… Beyoncé starring in The Lion King live action remake, new albums from Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Hozier and Cardi B. Plus a new album and movie from Sia. A foldable cell phone from Samsung, Lady Gaga at the Oscars, tours from Alessia Cara, Shawn Mendes, Backstreet Boys, Ariana, Spice Girls, and Kelly Clarkson (plus her new talk show), A Star Wars themed park/land at Disney World, Taylor Swift in the movie version of Cats (I mean she’s a natural), and FINALLY finding out who will be sitting on that Game Of Thrones throne!

This weekend I’m looking forward to taking my rightful place on the throne (a little bathroom humor) and on the decks with custom HK remixes of all the current hits - Panic! At The Disco, Five Seconds Of Summer, Zara Larsson, Shawn Mendes & Zedd, Bazzi, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper, Halsey and So Much More! It’s the first weekend of 2019 so tune us in and turn it up!

J BALVIN'S CHASING HIS DREAM

J Balvin wants to have a huge pop single sung completely in Spanish. This hasn’t happened since 1986 when Los Lobos had a #1 hit with “La Bamba”. Balvin may be on his way with “I Like It” (sung partially in Spanish) by Cardi B with Balvin and Bad Bunny. Balvin says “I wanna make history, I wanna tell my kids, one day when I have them…’Yo, I did this”. Another thing he can tell his kids about is being the subject of YouTube’s documentary series ‘Artist Spotlight Story: Redefining Mainstream”, out this week. Balvin has garnered 5 Billion (yeah that’s with a B) views on YouTube in 2018 alone. Congrats go out to J for his success.

Determination and talent have brought him a long way from his roofing, house painting days or freestyling in the streets and barbershops of Medellin, Columbia. While J Balvin continues to work on his dream I’m working on an exclusive HK remix of I Like It that I know your gonna like. Plus custom HK remixes on Kygo featuring Miguel, Marshmello & Anne-Marie, Taylor Swift, Bazzi, Backstreet Boys, Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa. Plus new joints from Kelly Clarksonand Lenny Kravitz and so much more!

Learn more about J Balvin's life in this newly released Youtube Documentary...

KELLY CLARKSON SUMMONS HER INNER ARETHA

It seems like every Friday a major pop star makes my day by showering us with a new studio album and this week its Kelly Clarkson’s turn with “Meaning of Life”. On this, her eighth album and first with Atlantic Records, Kelly is said to summon her inner Aretha. Other critics write that Clarkson goes full bore Mariah Carey showing off her multi-octave range. Some even say it’s a soulful stunner and the best album of her career. If Kelly’s first single, the Motown inspired, “Love So Soft" is any indication of the rest of the tracks on “Meaning of Life”, I’ll be picking that baby up this weekend.

Speaking of this weekend… Set an alert cause I’ve got an epic In The Mix with HK™ throw down on tap that you don’t wanna miss! With all this Kelly Clarkson talk I’m jonesin’ to put my signature on “Love So Soft”. Plus I’m in the studio working on custom HK remixes on hits from Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran, Portugal. The Man, Axwell & Ingrosso, Liam Payne, Hailee Steinfeld, Alesso, Florida Georgia Line and so much more. And, just when you think you can catch your breath, I’ll be breakin’ in new beats and throwin' down an “OMG I love that song” classic updated HK style.

MUSIC BRINGS HEALING, JOY AND TOGETHERNESS

In recent years music lovers have suffered senseless attacks of horrific violence - the shooting during the Eagles of Death Metal concert in Paris, Pulse night club shooting in Miami, the Manchester Arena bombing after an Ariana Grande concert and now the Route 91 Harvest Festival, shooting in Vegas. This is the second time in less than 18 weeks that I find myself writing about it. My heart is broken and thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. I have to keep reminding myself that love and kindness will always win and in a free and open society we will continue to go out and enjoy life and live music. It’s more scary now, in the wake of these tragedies and we all have to be more vigilant. Music is the thing that brings us all together and it will never be silenced.

This weekend I’m embracing love, life and the positive power of music! I’m pulling out all the stops with custom HK remixes on your favorite chart topers from Taylor Swift, Macklemore, Kelly Clarkson, Portugal. The Man, Dua Lipa, Halsey and more! Also featuring new music from Zayn/Sia, Axwell & Ingrosso, The Revivalists, Fergie, Dej Loaf and Blackbear. It’s a come together party you don’t wanna miss and it’s all going down right here.

Portugal. The Man Is A Band From Alaska!

Portugal. The Man isn't a man, it's a band and they're not from Portugal. They hail from Portland Oregon by-way-of Alaska. And they have their first mainstream Top 20 hit on their hands with “Feel It Still”. While they may be new to some people, Portugal. The Man’s debut album was released in 2006 and their current album Woodstock  is their eighth. When Billboard asked vocalist John Gourley why he thinks “Feel It Still” is their first song to crack the Hot 100  he said; “Anytime you borrow – or should I say, buy – the melody from (The Marvelettes) “Please Mr. Postman”, I feel like it should work. (This song) came about so naturally, just bass and a vocal. You can’t plan that stuff though, I’d like to think I could sit down and say ‘Hey guys, let’s write a hit,’ but there’s something really natural about this song and the way it came together.” It also doesn’t hurt that the song is used in a Vitaminwater ad with Aaron Paul dancing on a treadmill.

This weekend I’ll be dancin’ behind the decks when I cook up a custom HK remix on “Feel It Still” along with other bangers from Demi Lovato, Jonas Blue, Niall Horan, Kesha and that’s just the tip of my sonic iceberg. I can’t wait to spin some magic on brand spankin' new tracks from Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, P!nk, Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson. The musical mayhem kicks into full gear when I mashup some of your favorite throwbacks. It’s a party you don’t wanna miss.

NEW YEAR NEW ALBUMS

It's a new year and we have a lot to look forward to in the music world. Dua Lipa, the London dark pop singer/songwriter is dropping her self-titled debut album in February. Also early this year Drake will deliver More Life . This next album promised to be the exclamation mark to the end of Drake’s wickedly successful 2016. Can't believe he's already throwing new music at us! Spring is expected to end the four year long wait for Lorde’s much anticipated sophomore outing. Also this spring, Charli XCX plans to drop her next LP saying “Most of the songs on the album are about partying or about falling in love with someone after partying”. Sounds like a solid album plan to me! Kelly Clarkson is setting a summer release that is a return to classic soul. Saying it is “the record that has been in me since junior high”.  Seems like it’s been since junior high since Christina Aguilera’s last full-length. Rumor has it this is the year she will present a new LP. And can we seriously go a third year without a new Taylor Swift album?! I have my money and my hopes on Taylor LP6 arriving before Christmas. After a very explosive split from Fifth Harmony and a huge hit with Machine Gun Kelly, Camila Cabello is on track (be it just whispers) to drop her first solo endeavor. Another past group member that shook things up upon departure, Niall Horan says his upcoming work will have a “folk-with-pop feel to it”. Justin Timberlake reportedly has at least six great tracks in the can but will we see his album this year? Justin says… "I guess I’m resigned to the fact that I’m a tortoise when it comes to this process.” So I’m sticking with cautious optimism. Back in 2015 Katy Perry’s manager said the pop star’s fourth album would be out by 2016. Since then studio update tweets have hinted at a not so far off release that I am counting on!

This week you can count a weekend party that will shake the walls! I’ll be droppin’ the needle on your fave chart toppers in custom HK remix style. Plus get ready for new bangers from The Chainsmokes feat. Phoebe Ryan, Dua Lipa, Fitz & The Tantrums, Flume and Lady Gaga. It’s all going down right here this weekend.

TIS THE SEASON FOR UGLY SWEATERS, MUSIC & GIVING

Are you in need of a one-of-a-kind gift or an ugly Xmas sweater for a party? Do you LOVE music and are looking for an opportunity to give back this season? Some of your favorite big-name artists got you covered. DNCE, and Florida Georgia Line created specially designed ugly sweaters to benefit Musicians On Call (MOC). A nonprofit organization that brought music to the bedsides of half a million hospital patients around the county just this year. Musicians On Call is also auctioning off signed guitars and memorabilia from Ellie Goulding, Kelly Clarkson, Ke$ha, Ed Sheeran, Lin- Manuel Miranda, Nick Jonas and The Weeknd. I’m all about the healing power of music so you know I’m checking out the MOC website. I’ve got my eye on one of those ugly party sweaters, so it looks like I won't have to stop by the thrift shop (sorry Macklemore and Ryan).

As I've been saying for weeks it is party season and that means the friends are down, amps are up, volume is set to shake the house and the jams are ready to tear the roof off the motha! I’ve got your party soundtrack locked and loaded with exclusive HK remixes on Rihanna, X Ambassadors, Alessia Cara, John Legend, Pitbull and Fifth Harmony. Plus new tracks from Daya, Flume, Anne-Marie and so much more! Go on and rock that ugly sweater and get ready for a party you don’t wanna miss.

FOURTH OF JULY HK STYLE!

John Adams wrote that Independence Day … ought to be celebrated by pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward and forever more. If President Adams were alive today I believe he would have added…and by jamming out to In The Mix with HK™ for a non-stop musical extravaganza in all American HK style! That’s right, John Adams would be getting his patriotic groove on this weekend.

In honor of our Nation’s Birthday Bash I have put together custom HK mixes and remixes on all your favorite hits. Get ready for sonic fireworks from Kelly Clarkson – Invincible, OMI – Cheerleader, Tori Kelly – Should’ve Been Us, Walk The Moon – Shut Up And Dance,  The Weekend – Can’t Feel My Face, the new track from Selena Gomez featuring A$AP Rocky - Good For You and so much more!

RYN WEAVER GETS IN THE MIX WITH HK™

Ryn Weaver the 22 year old singer-songwriter out of San Diego has been called this years “It Girl”. MTV named her Artist to Watch saying ‘Joining the ranks of songwriting bad asses like Charli XCX and Lorde, Ryn is pretty much primed to pop off in 2015”. I couldn’t agree more. Huffington Post included her in their 25 Artists You Need To Start Listening To In 2015 and Times hailed her in their 15 Artists To Watch In 2015. Her debut single Octahate has been climbing up the charts. It also garnered 1 million plays on SoundCloud in two weeks and streamed more that 6 million times on Spotify. Given Ryn’s powerful lyrics and emotional vocal delivery combined with star studded collaborators/writers/producers namely- Charli XCX and Benny Blanco it’s no wonder Octahate hit the ground running. This weekend I sit down with Ryn to talk about her new found success, the inspiration behind the single and the excitement of hearing her song on the radio for the first time. And of course…there's always some amazing secrets you'll only hear when they get In The Mix with HK™.

Before Ryn tells us a few of her surprises you'll be blown away with my custom HK mixes on Kelly Clarkson, Calvin Harris/Ellie Goulding, Tove Lo, Sam Smith, Life of Dillon and many more. So, don’t miss a single beat this weekend.

LOVE AND HATE WITH EMPIRE

If you’re a music and TV junkie like me Fox's new hit show Empire is almost as much fun as two turntables and a microphone. What’s not to love? Original music from Timberland, a great cast, intriguing performances, killer guest appearances by Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige and Patti LaBelle, family tension, scores to settle, hip factor and of course sex. Sure I’d be happier if they threw an engineer in the recording studio (I mean who is laying down all those tracks???). Or, if they acted like artists had the extensive contracts that they do and just couldn't walk away whenever they felt like it. But hey! It’s the television equivalent of a modern day hip-hop Dynasty with a great mix for success!

I’ve got a bunch of hot mix sets planned for your party success this weekend on In The Mix with HK™! Buckle up and keep your hands in the car cause I’m hittin’ you up with custom HK remixes on Nick Jonas – Chains, One Direction – Night Changes, Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud, Taylor Swift – Blank Spaces, Kelly Clarkson – Heartbeat Song, Maroon 5 – Sugar and  Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk! Plus new music from Lunchmoney Lewis, Life of Dillon, Carly Rae Jepsen and Ryn Weaver!

A MAD CRAZY WEEK - TIME TO GET IN THE MIX WITH HK

If you're like me you might feel exhausted by now. I know, it's only Thursday. Really? that's it, I'm calling it. Everyone take a mental day off on Friday and get ready to party this weekend when I take all your favorite jams and remix them together into one non-stop music mix!

ANOTHER PARIS HILTON ALBUM...REALLY!

Remember Paris Hilton's album from 2006? Don't feel bad…you and the other 99.99% of people on planet earth don't either. But, that's not stopping Paris or her new label – Cash Money from spending a ton of money on her next musical outing. I know Paris can't sing a lick and even though she's currently touring as a DJ I hear she can't mix with a blender. We all know Paris is known for one thing and one thing only – being Paris. Ok, two things…that porn video! Kinda like her old girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, who she helped introduce to the world. Here's the amazing thing…don't be surprised to hear some monster hits come off this album project. With her coin, Lil Wayne, the Cash Money Family and producer Afrojack behind the knobs chances are there's gonna be some bangers!

Until we get something of hers to nibble on later this year, I'm gonna fill your ear canal with sonic bliss. I've got brand new HK remixes on Selena Gomez - "Come & Get It", Pitbull - "Feel This Moment", Icona Pop - "I Like It" and Avril Lavigne - "Here's To Never Growing Up". Your head is gonna explode when you here what's been done to Florida-Georgia Line - "Cruise". I also plan on bangin' out brand new beats for Kelly Clarkson - "People Like Us", Imagine Dragons - "Radioactive", Demi Lovato - "Heart Attack" and tons more. It's all goin' down this weekend.

Remember…if it's hot, if it's new and it makes you wanna move…you're In The Mix with HK™.
