“Thrift Shop” Is Big Bucks

I cannot get this song by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, featuring Wanz out of my cranium. Two weeks ago “Thrift Shop” went platinum and it now has captured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 knocking out Bruno Mars’ “Locked out of Heaven”. Even more astonishing is knowing that when this album was released last October, it immediately went to #1 on iTunes album download chart and #2 on the Billboard 200. And to top it all off the song and album were released on Macklemore’s independent label. That's right! The second biggest selling album in the country and the current number one song in the country with over one million in sales and 65 million youtube views has no association with a major label. Way to go guys. As Macklemore would say…"this is f**king awesome"!!!

If you love “Thrift Shop” as much as I do you gotta hear my custom HK remix of it. Also get ready for  smokin’ remixes of “Try” - Pink, "Scream & Shout" – Will.I.AM/Britney Spears, "Rest of My Life" – Ludacris/Usher/David Guetta, “C’mon – Kesha and “Lessons In Love” from Neon Trees. After I “Catch My Breath” with Kelly Clarkson,  I'm droppin new reworkings of “Don’t Stop The Party’ – Pitbull, “Daylight” – Maroon 5 and a whole lot more. Don't miss any of this sonic meltdown. Be sure to tune into In The Mix with HK™ this weekend!

It's Gonna Be A Long Cold Diva Winter

For many of us it already seems like the Mariah Carey – Nicki Minaj show, also known as American Idol, ended. After months and months of stories and pre-airing hype I feel like I know everything that happens. Oh! I'm sorry. Wait a minute! Isn't this show about average people pursuing their dreams and becoming stars over night. That's right! We all just forgot for a minute. It bothers me that American Idol has become all about the judges. But with all the seasons they have under their belt, plus added competition from other networks, there isn't much else they can do to promote the franchise.  And with all that said…they still are the best at discovering and creating REAL music stars. The Voice, which is actually my favorite of all music shows, is the best at keeping the focus on the bidding talent. But they've yet to yield even a nominal music star. Is Cassadee Pope going to be the first? Regardless…it's a good thing Christina Aguilera is taking the next season off from The Voice, cause 5 octave Mariah (xtina is 4) and new diva on the block Nicki will be sucking all the oxygen out of the atmosphere this winter.

And speaking of winter, if you think I spent most of last year locked away in a studio, wait to you hear what happens when it's cold and you don't wanna go outside. I'm putting the HK sonic touch on all your fav's this week. Get ready for ear-gasims on "Rest of My Life" – Ludacris/Usher/David Guetta, "Scream & Shout" – Will.I.AM/Britney Spears, "Sweet Nothing" – Calvin Harris f/Florence Welch and the new banger from Macklamore & Ryan Lewis f/Wanz – "Thrift Shop". By the time it's all over you'll be in a puddle of sweat after grooving on my remixes of RihannaPitbullAlicia Keys and Swedish House Mafia. But wait there's more. Are you sitting down? Even Ed SheeranThe ScriptNeon Trees and The Cab will fall into the sonic bliss known as In The Mix with HK. I've got all that plus new music from Sean KingstonThe Ready SetConor MaynardOwl City and more!!

Quitting, Winning And Stealing

There is so much music competition show news this week …where do I begin?  Well, Britney Spears will not be returning to “The X-Factor” next season. She decided to walk away with $15 million in her pocket and not come back. That’s what I call some good money for one season of work. Reports are that Simon is not crying over the news as he was hoping to get crazy Britney but ended up with boring (not so good for ratings) Britney. Simon was a winner however at the People’s Choice Awards with “The X Factor” taking home the Favorite Competition TV Show trophy and Demi Lavato grabbing the Favorite Celebrity Judge prize. Hold on to those accolades Demi, that award just might go to Nicki Minaj next year. After a preview of “American Idol” word is that Nicki Minaj is steeeeeeeeealing the show with her great energy, fun enthusiasm and likability factor. Go figure, she actually came across as the nice judge. What ??? I know!!!! Watch out Miss Mariah the limelight is definitely being shared if not stolen by Her Minajesty.

The limelight will be shining directly on the beats this weekend as I brew up custom HK remixes of all your favorite hits. Get ready for wicked reworks on Britney and Will I Am’s new one “Scream And Shout”, Justin Bieber featuring the Barbs – “Beauty and The Beat”, Swedish House Mafia – “Don’t You Worry Child”, Ke$ha – “Die Young”, Neon Trees – “Lessons In Love”, Rihanna – “Diamonds” and  Maroon 5 – “Daylight”! And that’s just getting the decks warmed up!

New Year New Music With HK!

It is 2013 and I think I speak for all of us when I say: we are ready for some new music from our fav artists. The rumor mill says that albums by Eminem, Rage Against the Machine, Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Katy Perry are on the horizon. However, with no release dates set I’m not holding my breath. On the more solid side LLCool J’s new album “Authentic Hip Hop” is set to drop on Feb. 2nd and 50 Cent’s new groves “Street King Immortal” originally slated for release a year ago (better late than never) is now scheduled for Feb. 26th. Artists who have been busy touring also have new beats on the way this spring. When do they find the time to hit the studio??? Bon Jovi will be droppin’ “What About Now” and Nicki Minaj will release her third album with the same name of “Pink Friday”. The always thoughtful Nicki subtitled it, “The Pinkprint” to help us avoid confusion. Lady Gaga’s much anticipated new album “ARTPOP” will have something for everyone with commercial radio friendly songs and then a more creative and experimental album to pop up six months later. Justin Bieber is dropping an all acoustic album. That’s right, he wants to be takin’ more seriously. Look for that to hit stores on Jan. 29th.

I’ll be starting off the New Year with brand spankin’ new custom HK remixes on Will. I. Am featuring Britney Spears- “Scream And Shout”, Ke$ha - “Die Young”, Kelly Clarkson - “Catch My Breath, Taylor Swift - “I Knew You Were Trouble, One Republic - “Feel Again’ and a wicked remix you’ve got to hear to believe on the new club banger collab from Ludacris-Usher-David Guetta -”Rest Of My Life”!  I’ve got that and plenty more surprises, so tune in this weekend for an all out party music jam you don’t want to miss!

HK's Look Back At The Year In Music

Oh what a year in music it was- EDM crossed over to the mainstream and becomes the hottest thing in Pop with Skrillex taking home several Grammy Awards, and deadmau5 and David Guetta performing live at the Grammys. To everyone's amazement and a little creepiness Tupac appeared as a hologram. The Rolling Stones marked 50 years as an iconic rock n' roll band with a greatest hits album, two films, a book, two new songs and an announcement of a "50 and Counting" tour. Beyonce and Jay-Z kept the headlines coming with releasing new music, the birth of Blue Ivy Carter, concerts, work on a new album, supporting Obama's re-election and a mega million dollar sponsorship deal with Pepsi. Taylor Swift sold 1.2 million copies of "Red' in its first week, making it the biggest debut of any album this year. One Direction was named "Billboard's Top New Artist of 2012" with a pair of No. 1 albums. Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart and was stuck in my head for months. We saw everyone and some who shouldn't be dancing to PSY and his infectious "Gangnam Style". it become the most-watched video on YouTube and is set to break over 1 billion views by the new year.  Adele was rollin' in all things good, with her "21" album (that I must note was released 23 months ago) selling 4.3 million copies in 2012 alone, recovering from vocal cord surgery, winning six Grammys, selling 1.1 million copies of "Skyfall' and becoming a mom. I wonder what she has planned for 2013?

I know I plan on rockin' the decks and droppin' the beats like a New Years Eve ball  with custom HK remixes on Justin Bieber & Nicki Minaj - "Beauty And The Beat", the hot new one fromMaroon 5 - "Daylight', Rihanna - "Diamonds", and  Pink - "Try". You won't believe what I've done to Ellie Goulding - "Anything Could Happen", Pitbull - "Don't Stop The Party" and the brand new club banger from Ludacris/Usher/David Guetta - "Rest of My Life".

There's plenty more and it's all coming with the HK flavor. So lock it in for a non-stop throw down on the one's and two's you don't want to miss!
