SUPER BOWL WEEKEND & SUPER MUSIC ON IN THE MIX WITH HK™

We all love the BIG GAME, but don’t underestimate the entertainment for heating up the field! During player warmups in the buildup to kickoff, DJ Snake will be spinning live from the sidelines. The National Anthem will be sung by country singer Chris Stapleton and Babyface will perform America the Beautiful. Emmy-award winning actress, Sheryl Lee Ralph, will sing Lift Every Voice and Sing. But let’s talk about THE HALFTIME SHOW. Rihanna hasn’t performed live in like nearly a decade. She’s been to busy becoming the youngest billionaire and fashion icon. We havn’t heard anything about who else might be performing with her, but think about this. The show is being produced by Roc Nation. And when you hear Roc Nation, you also think Shawn Carter. Does that mean we’ll see Jay-Z on stage with Rihanna?

 

I’ll give you another reason to love Super Bowl weekend. I’ve got possession of the perfect winning soundtrack. Rihanna made us wait seven years for new music and it was worth the wait. I mean, it’s easy to understand why she took so long. She’s the youngest self made female billionaire ever! Yeah, it all started with music and then some acting stints, but her massive empire is now built on fashion. And it’s been keeping her pretty busy. Then there’s that whole having a baby thing. One thing we know for sure, no matter what creative outlet she pursues, she personifies excellence.

LOVE AND MUSIC IN THE AIR

The music community is stepping up and giving back during this scary time of COVID-19. Taylor Swift has helped a Nashville record store stay afloat by donating money to each employee and paying three months of their health care. Taylor’s also been quietly making donations to fans who have lost jobs due to the crisis. Selena Gomez has donated to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA, the same hospital that has helped with her health issues including her 2017 kidney transplant. Last week Rihanna donated a whopping $5 million to COVID-19 relief efforts and this week she contributed another cool million that Jay-Z matched. Lizzo sent lunch to ER workers at various hospitals across the country. And the list goes on and on of donations and good deeds from celebrity artists and everyday people alike helping out in whatever way they can. 

This weekend I’m gonna do my best to send a happy distraction your way through the positive energy of music. Even though we’re apart I’ve got the beats to bring us together with custom HK remixes on hits from Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Tones And I, Post Malone, Trevor Daniel, Jonas Brothers and Billie Eilish. THINGS I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2019

2019 is here and there’s so much great stuff coming at us this year, so here’s my 2019 “looking forward to list” in no logical order… Beyoncé starring in The Lion King live action remake, new albums from Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Hozier and Cardi B. Plus a new album and movie from Sia. A foldable cell phone from Samsung, Lady Gaga at the Oscars, tours from Alessia Cara, Shawn Mendes, Backstreet Boys, Ariana, Spice Girls, and Kelly Clarkson (plus her new talk show), A Star Wars themed park/land at Disney World, Taylor Swift in the movie version of Cats (I mean she’s a natural), and FINALLY finding out who will be sitting on that Game Of Thrones throne!

This weekend I’m looking forward to taking my rightful place on the throne (a little bathroom humor) and on the decks with custom HK remixes of all the current hits - Panic! At The Disco, Five Seconds Of Summer, Zara Larsson, Shawn Mendes & Zedd, Bazzi, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper, Halsey and So Much More! THE MAN WITH THE MIDAS TOUCH...ZEDD

Bebe Rexha and country artists Florida Georgia Line have a double genre hit with their collab Meant To Be. Zedd has now tapped into that country magic with his new track, The Middle, featuring vocals by Grammy award winning country artist Maren Morris. But that’s where the country connection begins and ends. Unlike the Bebe/FGL song, “The Middle” is a straight up POP song that makes you want to dance. And considering Zedd’s success with producing female vocalists expect this one to go straight to the top. He’s had hits in the past with Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Alessia Cara, Haley Williams, Hailee Steinfeld and Foxes. I personally believe that he is one of the most talented Producer, DJ, Artists in the game!

When it comes to his experience working with Maren Morris, Zedd told People Magazine… “Grey and I went through roughly 15 different vocalist – mostly pop and lots of A-Listers – but it just didn’t fit. Then I jetted off to Nashville to meet Morris and within 30 minutes knew she was the one”.  Zedd says… “It had nothing to do with country. I don’t care about the genre you’re in. If you sing the song and I want to cry, then I know it’s perfect.”

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE GETS FILTHY

Timberlake’s been a media magnet since he released Filthy, the first single off his upcoming album, Man of the Woods that’s set to drop on Feb. 2^nd. Filthy already has a #1 fan- according to his superstar parents, Silas, Justin’s two year old son, is said to sing the lyrics to himself in the mirror. Timberlake’s last album was out in 2013 so there’s a lot of hype, anticipation and speculation going around. One of Timberlake’s producers, Danja says to expect country, blues and soul from his latest endeavor. Whatever the album holds Justin’s upcoming tour has some extravagant VIP packages. One is offering a “Stage Bar” experience where ticket holders will watch the show from their very own bar stool right up against the stage. It also comes with an adult beverage drink ticket! Now that’s my kinda concert goin’!

IMAGINE DRAGONS MADE ME A BELIEVER!

Imagine Dragons are blowing up the charts with their latest hit Believer. But to frontman Dan Reynolds this track is more than another chart topper. Reynolds has suffered from Ankylosing Spondylitis leading to debilitating pain and depression. These days Reynolds overall health has done a 180 with what he describes as “a lot of physical and mental work”.  Dan says; “The song is about how pain made me a believer”. “It made me a believer in myself, It’s made me a believer in my art and work”.

IN THE MIX WITH HK™ - GAME OF THRONES AND ED SHEERAN

What do In The Mix with HK™, Game of Thrones and Ed Sheeran have in common? This weekend…a lot! I'm a huge fan of the hit HBO show so I'd like to think of this weekend's broadcast as the GOT season 7 premiere party. Tune in to hear my exclusive remix of Ed’s Castle On The Hill and did you know he's making a cameo in this seasons Game Of Thrones. Apparently Ed is a huge GOT fan too and Maisie Williams, the Arya Stark actor, is a big fan of the British crooner. Knowing this, Executive Producers wanted to surprise her and arranged for Ed to be sharing the screen with Williams. ED says of the role “I sing a song and then (Arya) goes, “Oh, that’s a nice song,” and I go, “It’s a new one”. Could we be seeing more of the singer/songwriter wunderkind on the small and big screen soon?

ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS

Some interesting things happened this week in the music biz that should not be understated and probably would make your head spin. The Chainsmokers have three different singles in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. There are only two other groups to manage this rare feat. The Beatles were the first back in 1964. A decade later the Bee Gees did it with a trio of hits from their Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. And now the smokin’ hot EDM pop producers have joined the club. Think about that for a second. The Chainsmokers are now in the same league with The Beatles and The Bee Gees. But wait! There's more! Nicki Minaj tied Aretha Franklin's record for 73 songs to land in the Hot 100. That surpasses legends like Beyoncé, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Barbara Streisand and others. Mind blowing right?

CONGRATULATIONS TO GRAMMY WINNING FRIENDS OF IN THE MIX WITH HK™

Congratulations go out to all the 2017 Grammy winners! Especially to Twenty One Pilots, The Chainsmokers, Daya and Flume.  All who took some time out of their hectic schedule to hang in the mix with yours truly and talk with us while on their journey to Grammy success! Here are a few highlights from my EXCLUSIVE interviews with music royalty: Flume describes his Grammy winning album, Skin, as melodic and a little off. Flume says he makes music he wants to hear and that his biggest inspiration isn’t other people’s music but technology and using it in a way that hasn’t been used before. Tyler of Twenty One Pilots told us his favorite track from their #1 selling album Blurryface is Lane Boy  and Josh likes The Judge. But their fave may have changed since Stressed Out is the track that gave TØP their first Grammy. The Chainsmokers talked with us about the evolution of dance music and how they love where it’s going. Daya is totally blown away with the turn her life has taken saying her parents have given her total support and are now involved in her music career. COUNTDOWN TO THE GRAMMYS

Music’s biggest night is just a month away. Of course I’m talking about the Grammy Awards. As someone who’s been lucky enough to be a long time voting member of the Recording Academy, a previous Grammy nominee and Governor on the Board of the Grammys, as well as had the pleasure of working on 5 Grammy Award winning projects - I take the awards very seriously. The question I get asked most about the process (aside from “who ya voting for?”) is… "what’s the difference between Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year". These are two of the nights biggest awards. Come on, let's face it!!! We’re talking about the one song that ruled the year in music here! The Record Of The Year category recognizes the artist’s performance as well as the overall contributions of the producer(s), recording engineer(s) and/or mixer(s) if other than the artist. Basically those creative, often behind the scene, magicians who worked to make that song sound amazing. The Song Of The Year category is strictly a songwriters award and recognizes the incredible songwriter(s).

The LA based group Hey Violet began as the 4 girl hard rock band Cherri Bomb while its members were still in middle school. Since its inception the group has had a change of musical direction to punk-pop, the parting of a member, addition of guitarist and a bassist and is no longer an all-female band. They’ve  signed to 5 Seconds of Summer’s Label Hi Or Hey Records and have a new single Guys My Age making noise on the Pop charts!
