MUSIC OF OLYMPIC PROPORTION

Is music influential to bring home the gold in Sochi? Some scientist say “yes” and so do I. You may have seen athletes jamming out just prior to their event or even with their ear buds on during competition. According to research by sports psychologist Peter Terry - music has been shown to improve endurance performance, assisting people to run 18 percent longer. Also when you are doing the same amount of work while listening to music , you use 1-2 percent less Oxygen. Music can help adjust a person’s confidence and mood. YouTube channel ASAP Science says… “Even during competition, music can narrow an athlete’s attention, diverting the athlete’s sensations of fatigue.”

U.S. Gold medalist Jamie Anderson was seen taking out a set of ear buds after her win in the slopestyle event. Snowboarder Seamus O’Connor of Ireland said  “If I forgot my headphones or if my phone died then I’d be really, really upset. It would definitely change my performance if I didn’t have my music”. American Luger Kat Hansen says “Strictly Beyoncé. My girl Bey. She just gets me fierce and I get stoked and I just have to (dance). I have good mojo going on so it’s just how I roll”.

CELEBS IN REHAB BUT MUSIC IS THE BEST DRUG!

With the recent announcement that Selena Gomez spent two weeks in rehab and Ke$ha is extending her rehab stay, it makes one think of the number of celebs who have had problems with addictions.  Be it Selena’s Bieberaddiction (is that really true???), heroin, alcohol, eating disorders, Vicodin, cocaine, anger issues or sleeping pills music industry celebs have had their share of rehab stints.  Britney Spears, Eminem, Chris Brown, Demi Lovato,Ke$ha and now Selena are just a few. These stories of celebs falling from grace, losing their way and self-control may keep the news machines running , but I applaud anyone who is big enough to seek help when needed whatever the addiction may be.  I think Eva Mendes (who has had her own rehab visits) said it best… “I’m proud of people who have the determination and fearlessness to actually go and face their demons and get better”.

Music is my drug of choice and this weekend I have addictive beats, epic drops and plenty of re-imagined mixes on all your favorite hits!
