I’m all about the healing power of music so you know I’m checking out the MOC website. I’ve got my eye on one of those ugly party sweaters, so it looks like I won't have to stop by the thrift shop (sorry Macklemore and Ryan).

NEW TRACKS ARE DROPPING LIKE LEAVES

Some of our favorite powerhouse artists dropped singles this month as we wait in anxious anticipation for their next albums. It’s been 4 long years since Bruno Mars gave us his sophomore album and man am I ready for #3 . Mars dropped 24K Magic, the first single and title track of his new album slated for release next month and fans couldn’t be happier. Also due for an album are Maroon 5. They just dropped Don’t Wanna Know featuring seven time Grammy award winning artist Kendrick Lamar and it’s already blazing up the charts. Three years have passed since John Legend’s last album warmed our hearts. He recently released the first track Love Me Now from his upcoming album, Darkness and Light, due out later this year.

What do these songs have in common (aside from being great)? They’re all on the list of upcoming exclusive HK remixes to be debuted in this week’s In The Mix with HK™! JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE BACK TO THE BIG SCREEN AND IN THE MIX WITH HK™

Justin Timberlake is set to join the cast of Kate Winslet and Jim Belushi for Woody Allen’s next flick. The film will be the first collab. between JT and director Allen. Shooting for the movie will begin in New York this Fall. In typical Allen fashion, the plot details and film’s title are being kept under wraps. What’s not under wraps is the custom remix of JT’s Can’t Stop The Feeling that I have just for you! MUSIC AND MOVIES!

I’ll be glued to the Academy Awards this Sunday night not only cause I’m a movieholic, but I’ll also be anxiously waiting to hear the winner of Best Original Song. That bad boy is given to the songwriters who composed the piece specifically for a film. Kind of a bummer for the performer cause they get nada unless they kicked in on the writing of the lyrics or music. This winning song enhances the movie greatly but often isn’t a commercial success in its own right. Here are a few exceptions that were chart toppers… Last year Let It Go from the animated film Frozen won and we don’t need to talk about what a HUGE hit that was. Going way back some other winners that climbed the charts include Over the Rainbow - The Wizard of Oz 1939, The Way We Were - The Way We Were 1973, Theme From Shaft – Shaft 1971, Flashdance...What a Feeling - Flashdance 1983 , (I've Had) The Time of My Life - Dirty Dancing 1987 and My Heart Will Go On from Titanic 1997. Back in 2002 Eminem, Jeff Bass and Luis Resto killed it with their infectious grove: Loose Yourself  from 8 Mile. Then in 2005 Juicy J, Frayser Boy and DJ Paul’s It's Hard out Here for a Pimp from Hustle & Flow took the golden guy.

Will this year’s winner be a commercial success??? Hard to say but my vote for Best Original Song would go to Glory from Selma, music and lyrics by John Legend and Common. Glen Campbell’s I’m Not Gonna Miss You from Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me took the Grammy for Best Country Song and is a sentimental favorite. While Glory is the odds on pick after getting a big push from Legends recent performances at the pre-superbowl bash and Grammys. Both are strong, highly emotionally charged songs and deserving of the prize.

Jason Derulo is on fire! Since dropping The Other Side last year there's been no stopping him. This week he has two songs in the Billboard Top 13. His current single Talk Dirty and the brand new banger Wiggle, which is wiggling its way up the chart at a brisk pace!

CELEBS IN REHAB BUT MUSIC IS THE BEST DRUG!

With the recent announcement that Selena Gomez spent two weeks in rehab and Ke$ha is extending her rehab stay, it makes one think of the number of celebs who have had problems with addictions.  Be it Selena’s Bieberaddiction (is that really true???), heroin, alcohol, eating disorders, Vicodin, cocaine, anger issues or sleeping pills music industry celebs have had their share of rehab stints.  Britney Spears, Eminem, Chris Brown, Demi Lovato,Ke$ha and now Selena are just a few. These stories of celebs falling from grace, losing their way and self-control may keep the news machines running , but I applaud anyone who is big enough to seek help when needed whatever the addiction may be.  I think Eva Mendes (who has had her own rehab visits) said it best… “I’m proud of people who have the determination and fearlessness to actually go and face their demons and get better”.

Music is my drug of choice and this weekend I have addictive beats, epic drops and plenty of re-imagined mixes on all your favorite hits!
