FAST CAR GETS REDESIGNED AND IS THIS WEEK'S PICK TO HIT™

Jonas Blue the young, up and coming London producer gets his musical cues from pop and classic dance music. But his latest single, Fast Car, came from re-imagining one of his mother’s favorite songs. Jonas says he remembered hearing Tracy Chapman’s classic Fast Car on repeat as a child. Jonas traded the original guitar from the track for an upbeat tropical house sound. He admits that finding the right vocalist was the difficult part. 

One night he heard a unique bluesy voice lilting from the basement of an East London pub. The young sultry voice was that of Dakota. The very next day Jonas and Dakota were in the studio to record Fast Car. His rendition has found its way to the top of the Australian charts and this week it hits the decks on In The Mix with HK™. CAN SIA STRIKE GOLD WITH REJECTION?

Sia, the highly prolific hit maker, vocalist and songwriter is dropping her latest album This Is Acting next week! It’s comprised of songs she wrote for - and were rejected by - such stars as Katy Perry, Rihanna and Adele. With Sia’s incredible talent and passion chances are good that their loss will be Sia’s gain. The album’s first single Alive was written by Sia, Adele and Tobias Jesso Jr. and produced by Jesse Shatkin who also co-wrote and co-produced Sia’s huge four-time Grammy nominated smash Chandelier. I’m hoping Sia will have us swinging from a chandelier again with her latest outing.

This week’s Pick To Hit™ comes from Shawn Hook. He may not be a household name in America yet but his latest single, Sound of Your Heart, has already gone platinum in his native Canada and recently broke 10,000,000 streams on Spotify. Shawn describes the track as being about losing someone and wanting to make it right, even though the chances are slim. 

Chances are not slim that he's got wicked talent. Hook is a multi-instrumentalist who started playing piano at age four. He also plays guitar, bass and trombone. As if that wasn’t enough, Hook is a songwriter/vocalist with an impressive range who is now looking forward to introducing his music to America. Shawn moved to LA on New Year’s day and will make his first National Television performance at the end of this month on Kelly and Michael. Music festival season is just around the corner. The world’s highest grossing festival which is also known for being a premier music tastemaker is the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. Last year it set records by grossing over $84 million in ticket sales. 2016 will mark another milestone for the festival as Calvin Harris becomes the first DJ to play Coachella as a premier headliner. Back in 2014 Harris made his Coachella debut and had one of the biggest crowds in the festival’s history. This year as a top billed act and with all his recent hits, Calvin’s numbers are certain to rise.
