EDM TAKES OVER THE POP CHARTS…AGAIN!!!

Long long ago in a galaxy far far away artists like Acraze, The Chainsmokers, Tiesto, Alesso and Diplo were known only to fans of EDM. Their songs were confined to the Dance charts and those tripping the light fantastic. That all changed years ago when upbeat dance music took over the airwaves and souls of everyone with a heartbeat. Once again, there is overwhelming proof that a great pop vocal and melody over a pulsating dance track is a winner for artists and fans alike. All of the aforementioned artists are in this week’s In The Mix with HK™ along with new music from Jena Rose, Em Beihold, SZA, The Walters and MORE! Plus EXCLUSIVE HK remixes on Post Malone & The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Imagine Dragons and more of your current faves!

We all love the BIG GAME, but don’t underestimate the entertainment for heating up the field! Kicking things off during player warmups is official pregame DJ Zedd. The National Anthem will be sung by country singer Mickey Guyton and Jhene Aiko will perform America the Beautiful. Then the Southern California Hip-Hop show of the decade takes over for halftime withDr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar. With the highly anticipated musical performances, commercials you actually might want to watch, fun food and oh yeah…the championship football game of the year too, you gotta love Super Bowl Sunday!

I’ll give you another reason to love Super Bowl weekend. I’ve got possession of the perfect winning soundtrack. It’s gonna be a party blitz with exclusive HK remixes on hits from Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Adele, Ed Sheeran, Gayle, Neiked and MORE. ADELE IS ROCKIN’ IT WITH FANS & IN THE MIX WITH HK™

I just love everything I know about Adele. Of course it started with her voice and those gorgeous songs. But Adele the person seems just as captivating.

After Covid 19 forced a last minute cancellation to the opening of her Vegas residency, Adele started Face-Timing with super fans in the lobby of Caesar’s Palace. These are fans who spent a lot of money to not only buy tickets to the show, but plane flights, hotel, etc. Even though this was a horrible situation for Adele and her fans, the superstar still managed to turn it into a positive experience and connect even more with her audience. Check out the video.

A MUST check out is this week’s In The Mix with HK™. I’ve got Adele, Glass Animals, Taylor Swift, Silk Sonic and Latto all like you’ve never heard them before. New music from Alesso & Katy Perry, Ckay, The Weeknd, Rufus Du Sol and MORE! I’ll bet anything Ed Sheeran, Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, Tiesto & Ava Max might make a sonic appearance. Don’t be the one on Monday morning regretting you missed out on the party.

Remember…if it's hot, if it's new and it makes you wanna move…you're In The Mix with HK™.

PITBULL IS BACK AND HE FEELS GOOD

Pitbull is back on the airwaves and dancefloors with his latest banger entitled “I Feel Good”. Helping him out on the track are Anthony Watts and DJWS. The track is dope and the vocal collab takes it to even higher levels.

I urge you to turn the level up this weekend when I pump my EXCLUSIVE HK remix of that track along with new music from Alesso & Katy Perry, Benson Boone, Sean Paul & Sia, Swedish House Mafia. Plus killer new reimagined versions on your favorite hits from Adele, Gayle, Acraze, Neiked and So Much More!

KELLY CLARKSON SUMMONS HER INNER ARETHA

It seems like every Friday a major pop star makes my day by showering us with a new studio album and this week its Kelly Clarkson’s turn with “Meaning of Life”. On this, her eighth album and first with Atlantic Records, Kelly is said to summon her inner Aretha. Other critics write that Clarkson goes full bore Mariah Carey showing off her multi-octave range. Some even say it’s a soulful stunner and the best album of her career. If Kelly’s first single, the Motown inspired, “Love So Soft" is any indication of the rest of the tracks on “Meaning of Life”, I’ll be picking that baby up this weekend.

Speaking of this weekend… Set an alert cause I’ve got an epic In The Mix with HK™ throw down on tap that you don’t wanna miss! With all this Kelly Clarkson talk I’m jonesin’ to put my signature on “Love So Soft”. Plus I’m in the studio working on custom HK remixes on hits from Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran, Portugal. The Man, Axwell & Ingrosso, Liam Payne, Hailee Steinfeld, Alesso, Florida Georgia Line and so much more. And, just when you think you can catch your breath, I’ll be breakin’ in new beats and throwin' down an “OMG I love that song” classic updated HK style.

Remember…if it's hot, if it's new and it makes you wanna move…you're In The Mix with HK™.

COPYRIGHT DISPUTES AND THE MUSIC INDUSTRY (or is it that hard to write an original song and/or pay for sampling)

Believe it or not since the 1850’s federal courts have been dealing with copyright infringement. Back then you think it would be a lot easier to come up with an original piece of music. Over the past twenty years the number of these cases has blown up. Is it that there’s so much music out there it’s hard to come up with a new groove, or is it the whole sampling thing? At any rate the list of artists being slapped with copyright lawsuits is long.

Way back, Michael Bolton released a song with the same name and some of the same lyrics as The Isley Brothers. Michael argued that there was no plagiarism going on but the court disagreed and awarded the Isley Brothers 5.4 million dollars. Bet the Isley Brothers wished he would rip off more of their beats. Then there was the time Vanilla Ice penned Ice Ice Baby and didn’t realize that altering the rhythm and base line of Queen & Bowie’s Under Pressure wasn’t enough to call it your own and skip the whole getting permission, giving credit and paying royalties thing.  More recently Usher, David Guetta, Kanye West, Will.I.Am, Chris Brown, Led Zeppelin (Yes, Led Zepplin), Justin Bieber, Beyonce and Jay Z are on the short list of those sued for copyright infringement.

The trial over Blurred Lines starts next month and has Pharrell and Robin Thicke hoping they won’t Got To Give It Up to Marvin Gaye's estate. Then just this week Sam Smith very quietly and classily settled a dispute with Tom Petty over the likeness between Sam’s three-time Grammy- nominated Stay With Me and Petty’s I Won't Back Down. Sam’s camp says the similarity is a “complete coincidence”.

What isn’t a complete coincidence is that sparks will be flyin’ off the ones and two's when I hit you up with custom HK remixes this weekend. You’re gonna want to turn the volume way up when I rework Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk , Alesso -  Heroes, Calvin Harris featuring John Newman – Blame, Ella Henderson - Ghost, Nick Jonas – Chains, Taylor Swift – Style and so much more!

TAYLOR SWIFT CAN'T SHAKE OFF SUCCESS!

There is success and then there’s “Taylor Swift Success”. At a time when album sales are way way down, her new album, 1989, sold over one million copies in its first week of release. To put it in perspective, that is two copies being sold every second!  Making it the biggest album released in 2014. In fact no other single artist album has gone platinum all…year...long, not  even Beyoncé’s secret album or Lord’s Pure Heroine.  And Taylor did it in just a week!!! Hmmmm… I wonder who last rang up that cray zay amount of sales in a mere seven days??? Oh yeah, the last artist to sell one million albums in one week was… what’s her name again… that would be Taylor Swift with her Red album in 2012!!!! Actually it’s a hat trick. Her 2010 album Speak Now also went platinum in a week. Making Ms. Swift the only act EVER to have three albums sell a million copies in a weeks’ time!

Well, so much for feeling good about what I did last week. I guess I'm just gonna have to Shake It Off. That’s right, I’m comin’ in hot this weekend with custom HK remixes on Taylor, Jessie J + company, Calvin Harris, Gwen Stefani, Maroon 5, Nick Jonas, Alesso, Echosmith and a list to long to name here! Plus brand new bangers from David Guetta, Charli XCX, Ella Henderson, Naughty Boy, R3hab + more!.

ARIANA'S EXTRA GRANDE LIFE!

When I think of Ariana a few things come to mind…multi-octave vocalist, international pop star, TV star, composer, Broadway performer, multi award winner and the list goes on. Pretty much…Ariana Grande is having no Problem at anything.

Just this year she’s had three songs in the top 10 at the same time. Making her the second woman to achieve such a feat, the first being Adele. On top of that, Problem broke a record as the fastest song to ever climb to #1 on iTunes, doin’ it in just 37 minutes. It takes me longer to get out of bed in the morning. Then we have Grande’s first two albums. Yeah… they both debuted at #1. She’s the first woman to do that since Susan Boyle in 2010. If all that success isn’t enough Gloria Estefan reportedly wants Ariana to portray her in On Your Feet, the Broadway- bound musical based on Estefan’s life. Then there’s that leading voice-acting role Ariana just landed for the animated film Underdogs, slated to drop in theaters April 10^th, 2015. What’s that? Oh, just the sound of movie star being added to her list. And to top it all off Grande is barely 21!

I know what’s on my list and that’s bringing you non-stop exclusive mixes, epic drops and bodacious beats this weekend on In The Mix With HK™.

Blastin' out your speaks is gonna be Taylor Swift – Shake It Off, Fall Out Boy – Centuries, Maroon 5 – Animals and of course my blazin' remix on Ariana's – Break Free. There's even more EXCLUSIVE HK remixes on Iggy Azalea, Pitbull, Coldplay, Clean Bandit and Echosmith. Speaking of Clean Bandit I've got more of my exclusive interview with them and brand new bangers from Chris Brown, Alesso, Bebe Rexha, Jake Miller, Nico & Vinz and One Republic. WOW!!! you don't want to miss a second of this show!

CLEAN BANDIT WOULD RATHER BE IN THE MIX WITH HK

Clean Bandit has been on the top of the charts with their infectious international hit Rather Be. This week I chat with Jack Patterson who is credited with the creation of the group as well as Art Direction, Bass, Body Percussion (interesting), Composer, Steel Drums, Keyboards, Mixing, Piano, Producer, Vocals and  Midi-Saxophone. Apparently Jack has some… shall we say…skills? He’ll be telling us about Clean Bandit’s eclectic sound, how the group came to be and much more. Like how they went from studying architecture and history at the University of Cambridge to being  pop stars!

Also on In The Mix with HK™ find out how the best bangers just got better when I throw down custom HK remixes on …

Nico & Vinz – In Your Arms, Coldplay – A Sky Full Of Stars, Katy Perry – This Is How We Do, and  Nicki (baby got back) Minaj – Anaconda! The sparks will be flying with Pitbull’s– Fireball featuring John Ryan, Alesso – Heroes,  Bebe Rexha – Can’t Stop Drinking About You and Meghan Trainor's – All About That Bass will be blowin’ up your speakers! And that’s just gettin’ the decks warmed up! It’s gonna be an EPIC night you don’t want to miss!
