BTS BLASTS TO #1

BTS dropped their second English single and it’s spreading all over the world like Butter on hot toast. It’s already broken five world records. My favorite is most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours with 108 million views. In the first hour alone it had almost 19 million, about the same as the entire country of Chile watching the video in the first hour. So it’s no surprise that Butter debuted as the #1 song in the country. Making this BTS’s fourth #1 hit.

Harry Michael, professionally known as Masked Wolf has a Top 10 hit with his breakthrough single Astronaut in the Ocean. Michael began writing at the age of 13 and stated "I've always been interested in music and as a young kid, my musical outlet was actually playing instruments like the piano, keyboard, guitar and drums". He also revealed the lyrics of the song touch on mental depression, how he was stuck in a place of anxiety and feeling low.

K-POP IS BLOWING UP STATESIDE

BTS has the #1 song in the country for the second week in a row with the track Dynamite. It’s their first English-language single and the first number one on the Billboard Hot 100 by an all-South Korean act. Dynamite is also the biggest stateside hit of BTS’s career raking up a sic 17.5 million U.S. streams in the first week of its release. Fellow Korean K-Pop girl group, Blackpink has their own success to celebrate. Their latest track Ice Cream, a collab with Selena Gomez, is number one globally on YouTube and they’re getting a Netflix documentary set to air next month.

THE MELDING OF MUSIC's POP STARS AND MOVIES

Recording artists becoming movie stars is nothing new. But it is crazy amazing for a successful pop artist to become a critically acclaimed actor. From Cher, Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand and Jennifer Hudson taking home Oscars to Lady Gaga, Queen Latifah, Mary J Blige, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, Mark Wahlberg and Will Smith having Oscar nominations for their acting chops, the double threat is real. Hell, there’s been great performances from recording artists on screen from the likes of Justin Timberlake, Prince, Mariah Carey, Elvis Presley, Ice Cube, Harry Styles, Lenny Kravitz, Beyonce, Eminem, Rihanna and many more. This year Pop stars are once again taking on the immense challenge of the big screen. Ed Sheeran’s playing himself (ok, not as great of a challenge as some roles…but still) in the Beatles inspired rom-com, “Yesterday”. Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B and Lizzoare in the modern Robin Hood/stripper (yes I just put those words together) story, “Hustlers” out this September. And the much anticipated movie musical “Cats”, set to drop in December, will star Jennifer Hudson, Jason Derulo and the “could she be cast more perfectly”, Taylor Swift.

ED SHEERAN'S DROPPING AN OUTRAGEOUSLY STAR STUDDED ALBUM

This Weekend Ed Sheeran’s new album “No. 6 Collaborations Project” drops. Three of the singles from that album are already in the top 40 of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with his joint Justin Bieber track hitting #4. The album impressively has various musical styles ranging from Caribbean-accented dance-pop to glowing R&B balladry and even a hair-metal jam. The LP’s collab's read like a who’s who of artists with Bruno Mars, Skrillex, Cardi B, Eminem, Chris Stapleton, Camila Cabello, Khalid and others all adding their skills. The Managing Director of Sheeran’s label said of the album – “ Obviously, Ed can write songs on his own. But it’s just more fun to do it with other people”.

2019 is shaping up to be the year of female music chart domination. In 2018 solo female stars hit #1 on the chart for 11 weeks. Just a few months into 2019 and the ladies have already matched that number with Ariana Grande and Halsey leading the charge. If Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift drop new music this year and Ariana keeps clicking off hits, plus P!nk’s new album comes out April 26^th...the ladies are gearing up for one great year!

SUPER BOWL WEEKEND - SUPER MUSIC ON IN THE MIX WITH HK™

We all love the BIG GAME, but don’t underestimate the entertainment for heating up the field! First, there’s the singing of the National Anthem. Plus a new album and movie from Sia. A foldable cell phone from Samsung, Lady Gaga at the Oscars, tours from Alessia Cara, Shawn Mendes, Backstreet Boys, Ariana, Spice Girls, and Kelly Clarkson (plus her new talk show), A Star Wars themed park/land at Disney World, Taylor Swift in the movie version of Cats (I mean she’s a natural), and FINALLY finding out who will be sitting on that Game Of Thrones throne!

This weekend I’m looking forward to taking my rightful place on the throne (a little bathroom humor) and on the decks with custom HK remixes of all the current hits - Panic! Drake has spent the past 10 weeks as the #1 song in America with his smash,“In My Feelings”. This Week Drizzy settles in at #2, making way for Maroon 5 to take the top spot with their hit “Girls Like You”. This is the group’s first chart topper since “One More Night”  took over the summit back in 2012 and their forth #1 song overall. Adam Levine says “Reaching this milestone again is a dream for this band” and he doesn’t take this accomplishment for granted.
