KATY PERRY RISES THIS WEEK ON IN THE MIX WITH HK™

Katy Perry recently released Rise, it’s her first new single in two years and she also wrote it! Here’s what the Grammy nominee said in a statement about her latest track – “This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite.  I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world. SUPER BOWL SUNDAY AND MUSIC!

We all love the game but don’t underestimate the entertainment for heating up the field! First, there’s the singing of the National Anthem. The fun here is the extreme difficulty of the song, and the pressure of over 100 million people watching that one lone vocalist. This year Renne Fleming will take the microphone. Being an acclaimed opera singer, my guess is she'll kill it, but will she top Whitney Houston’s dramatic Super Bowl performance. I can’t wait to find out. 

Next up is the halftime show which can have more unexpected excitement than the first half of the game. Need I mention the Janet Jackson / Justin Timberlake wardrobe malfunction? This year with Bruno Mars at the helm I’m expecting nothing but mega-star talent and class. Then throw in a little Red Hot Chili Peppers to spice things up and we got a Jersey party goin’ down on mid field. Then, right after the game, Prince (no seriously… Prince) is appearing in “New Girl”! You gotta love Super Bowl Sunday!

2014 STARTS WITH A BANG, A FIZZLE AND CLEANING OUT THE CLOSET

The New Year came in with a bang. Literally! Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco is now off the market. Sorry guys, the sexy hot geek lover is officially married. Congrats Kaley!

And remember that young guy Justin Bieber? Well, his last movie opened to a first week box office of 30 million dollars. Unlike the xmas week flop of “Believe” which had an opening week take of just 4 million dollars. I guess the shine has worn off of the star going into 2014 hey?

Then there’s all the brouhaha coming out of the Duck Dynasty compound. People can’t believe the things coming out of Phil Robertson’s mouth. Really? Are you kidding me? Like this is a surprise to anyone. Phil is a self-confessed redneck. He’s been saying what he says from the bully pulpit and everywhere else for years. And A&E with all due respect this is exactly what you pay him to be…himself. Remember, it’s called “reality tv”. And speaking of reality…TV… and things that piss off Phil…how about Robin Roberts from Good Morning America coming out of the closet. WOW! Sam Champion the former weather guy from the same show – who left just before the end of the year to run the Weather Channel - came out just a moment ago himself. What’s in the coffee over there?

ICONA POP IN THE MIX WITH HK "ALL NIGHT"

Through the years Sweden has provided the world with a lot of great pop dance music. In fact two of the countries current hottest exports are blazing a trail up the american music charts as we speak -  Avicii and Icona Pop.

Icona Pop is currently on tour in America and I had the pleasure of checking out their show as well as hanging with the girls (Caroline and Aino). After being dumped and heartbroken these gals found each other through a mutual friend and in just 24 hours over a bottle of wine and a laptop their first song was written. "I Love It" was one of this year's anthems and "All Night" is poised to follow in it's footsteps. Their live show is fantastic, get out and see them. FAMILY AND MUSIC!

This week I have family from out of town visiting with me. We all went to see The Package Tour together and while there, they got to share in the whole pre-show backstage and post show tour bus excitement. They got to watch and learn while I was doing an interview and they were blown away when they saw how much work goes into producing and remixing all the songs played each week. These personal family music experiences made me think about musical families in the biz. For instance, going way back you had the Osmond Family, the Jackson Family and Sonny & Cher (husband & wife). Christina Aguilera was married to her label A&R Executive, Jessica & Ashlee Simpson were managed by their father,Beyonce' was managed by her dad and all her fashions were designed by her mom. Miley Cyrus was first introduced to the world by her than successful dad Billy Ray. Taylor Swift's family uprooted their whole life to move to Nashville just so she could pursue her dreams and Bruno Mars musical genius comes from performing at a young age with a very musical family. I know these examples are just the tip of the iceberg but when my family is hanging out in the studio with me this weekend, I'll be thinking of all these people and the power of family and music!
