MUSIC COUPLES = EPIC DROPS AND BREAKS

When you're composing music, epic drops and awesome breaks usually translate to a big sounding track and most likely a hit. It's certainly two very important ingredients in EDM. However, for people who make music it takes on a totally different meaning in their personal life.

This week was a perfect example.Katy Perry and John Mayer went their separate ways yet again. These two have been on and off more than a broken light switch. The thing that makes it seem weirder this time is she was just sporting an engagement ring around Valentine's Day. And, the two have been talking marriage for months. Then there's Rihanna and Drake, another on again off again couple. Apparently their on again if you judge by the on stage "grind-o-matic" they displayed at a recent Drake concert. Another stunner was the announcement Robin Thicke and his long-time wife have split. This after a year of the couple publicly speaking about how much they love one another, in the wake of the "Blurred Lines" video controversy. Of course for those of us in the biz I don't think it was a big surprise about Robin, as his lines have always been blurred.

This week on IN THE MIX WITH HK™ I promise to stay focused and passionate. Something that some of our musical artists are having trouble with. Lock it in all weekend long to to hear the kind of epic drops and awesome breaks that make you want to move.

I'm featuring brand new HK remixes on Cash Cash f/Bebe Rexha - "Take Me Home", American Authors - "Best Day Of My Life", Ellie Goulding - "Burn", One Republic - "Counting Stars" and Shakira f/Rihanna - "Can't Remember To Forget You". Plus thumping new HK takes on NoNoNo - "Pumpin Blood", Bastille - "Pompeii", Passenger - "Let Her Go", A Great Big World - "Say Something" and many many more!

There's also more of my exclusive interview with Karmin so don't miss a single beat. It's all goin' down this weekend!

GRAMMY NOMINEES ARE IN THE MIX WITH HK

The Recording Academy is an organization that shows love for the music community in a multitude of ways all year long. But, on Sunday January 26th it is all about the Grammys and celebrating (as they say) artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry.

Being a long time voting member of the Academy plus a previous Grammy nominee I take the Grammy Awards very seriously.  Marking my ballot took a lot of time and was a difficult task since there are so many great artists and songs in the running. Record of the Year is a down and dirty tight race and I would love to know who you think should win. The nominees are:  "Get Lucky"- Daft Punk, "Radioactive"- Imagine Dragons, "Royals"- Lorde, "Locked Out Of Heaven" - Bruno Mars, and "Blurred Lines" - Robin Thicke f/T.I & Pharrel.

I'm kicking off my Grammy weekend party on In The Mix with HK and I'll be featuring brand spankin' new remixes on many of the nominated artists like Bruno MarsRobin ThickeKaty PerryLordeSara Bareilles and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

I've also got brand new HK Eargasms on Demi Lovato - "Neon Lights", Pitbull/Ke$ha - "Timber", Jason Derulo - "Talk Dirty" and John Newman – "Love Me Again". Of course there's plenty more so check your local listings and don't miss a single second when I'm throwin' it down on the one's and two's!

Actor, songwriter, record producer and innovative rapper Eminem is finally back with the dropping of his brand new single Berzerk. Not only is he back on the scene but he is taking no prisoners as this latest release sold 362,000 copies last week. Berzerk is doing it old school with samples from Billy Squire and Beastie Boys. It’s infectious hook combined with Eminem’s wicked staccato flow assures this one’s gonna blowup. It’s just a taste of what is to come on Eminem’s upcoming eighth studio album, The Marshall Mather LP 2, hitting stores on November 5th.

KE$HA AND MIKE POSNER GET CRAZY!

Ke$ha is currently on tour promoting her second studio album Warrior and with all the hits this crazy kid has put out you know I needed to check it out. All the open sexuality and craziness that follows Ke$ha everywhere was certainly present on stage along with a full band, dancers and the perfect blend of sonic and visual mayhem. Oh, and let's not forget a sold out crowd adorned with glitter, face paint and head bands. Imagine the 60's hippie movement colliding with the pop EDM world and that's what you get at a Ke$ha show. Mike Posner opened up for her and primed the crowd with his own hits - "Cooler Than Me", "Bow Chicka Wow Wow", "Please Don't Go" and the monster Justin Bieber hit "Boyfriend". For those who don't know, Mike wrote that monster hit for Justin! This was without a doubt the best show I've seen in this size venue. I went expecting a more scaled down version of the tour but that was not the case. Even before walking in I saw four tour buses and three semi's and thought…this is gonna be crazy!

See all the photos here: http://goo.gl/nMsNBI

That craziness and sonic mayhem continues this weekend In The Mix with HK. With Labor Day Weekend around the corner and State Fairs popping up like weeds, the pressure was on to lock myself in the lab and crank out a bevy of new eargasms for my listeners. You better fasten your seat belts cause I've got the brand new Katy Perry - "Roar", a hot extended remix on Lady Gaga's - "Applause", and a new spin on Avicci's country EDM smoker that's guaranteed to "Wake Me Up". One Direction's Movie is about to open and I've opened up their current single "Best Song Ever". The party wouldn't be complete without new joints from Robin ThickeJustin TimberlakeParamoreTegan & SaraEmblem 3 and Capital Cities. So no matter where you are this weekend, pump up the volume and get In The Mix with HK.

ROBIN THICKE IN THE MIX WITH HK

Robin Thicke has the #1 song in the country this week and I recently caught up with him backstage to talk about his journey to the top of the pop charts. That chat and my latest reworking of his song "Blurred Lines" will be featured in this week's show. The hit has come under fire and is taking a lot of heat for being degrading to women. Robin's own comments in a recent interview didn't help matters. What do you think? Is this the price of success or do the claims have merit?

Make sure you catch that interview along with my latest crop of remixes from the musical garden. I've mixed and tossed Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - "Can't Hold Us", Imagine Dragons - "Radioactive", Rihanna - "Stay" and Maroon 5 - "Love Somebody". I'm also putting the sonic HK Miracle Grow to the latest from Capital CitiesAustin MahoneMiley Cyrus and Nikki Williams. There's plenty more musical madness and it's all going down this weekend! All your fave jams in non-stop commercial free music sets back to back and beat to beat!

I'm talking a mad crazy version of Ke$ha - "Crazy Kids", my don't even think about stopping us version of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - "Can't Hold Us" and "Same Love" and if you think you love Maroon 5 - "Love Somebody", then you're gonna have an HK eargasm when you hear what I'm gonna do to it. And that’s only some of what I've got planned for the first set. No matter where you are or what you're listening on do not miss this week's show. Imagine Bruno Mars - "Treasure", Jennifer Lopez - "Live It Up", Selena Gomez - "Come & Get It", Florida-Georgia Line - "Cruise" and Fall Out Boy - "My Songs Know What You Did" all pumped up, mixed together and commercial free. Macy's Glamorama 2012

Every year Macy's puts on the perfect melding of music and fashion via their show called Glamorama. Each year there's a different theme to the show featuring various fashion designers and great music. The  music is almost always a knockout via live performances and pre-recorded mash-ups. This is a high-brow marketing blitz put on to highlight their upcoming fall fashions, but it's really a great night of music and entertainment - all in the name of local charities in each city where the show takes place.

Talk about a win-win-win. Macy's shows off it's upcoming fall line, the audience gets a great night of entertainment, and all proceeds from the sale of tickets to the evening go to great causes in Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. I say evening, cause the massive production starts with the show and performances on stage, and ends with the after party. Now take it from someone who has attended almost every after party there is, including the Grammy Awards (many times). This party is not to be missed. If you've never made it to Glamorama get your butt there! I promise you'll have a good time and do some good.

Here's a taste of this years show from Minneapolis starring Karmin and Robin Thicke. You can hear my interview with Karmin this coming weekend In The Mix with HK.
